Music is a big part of
my life. If not for music and my faith I don’t know where I would be. I first
became a fan of music at the age of eight after listening to
Michael Jackson’s
Thriller album. I remember skipping summer camp with my step brother sitting up
in my house in
Maryland watching rap videos like
Kwame’s “The Rhythm”,
Run DMC’s
“Ghostbusters” along with
Kool Moe Dee killing it alongside other hip hop greats
in
“Self Destruction”. To the younger audience reading this I suggest you hit up
YouTube and check those videos out. Once I was in high school
Nas,
Wu-Tang Clan,
Jay-Z,
The Beatnuts,
Outkast, and
Goodie Mob were some of my influences that I
learned the art of putting together rhymes. Later on I became a fan of
Rage
Against The Machine,
Smashing Pumpkins,
System Of A Down, and
Linkin Park.
Listening to them made me go back and listen to the music that influenced them
like the
Led Zeppelin’s of the world and the
Jimmi Hendrix’s which influenced
me. I remember being in the
Air Force in
Saudi Arabia sitting in a watch tower
overlooking the desert writing rhymes over beats Nas was on to past time. Once I
got back stateside I came across three dudes that had the same love for hip hop
as I did and we started making music out of the closet. That was the first time
I ever recorded anything. From making simple raps and simple beats I grew to
become a song writer. I made my first “so-called” mix tape to buying my first pro
tools program and from there started recording in a professional environment. I
have been signed by two independent labels but it did not work out with either
of them. So now I am taking my own steps, putting my own money into my own
projects taking a chance and going out on faith; Faith that my music will reach
a diverse audience. No matter what happens, if I make it or not, I will have
achieved my dream. Whether I gain one fan or ten million fans, make one dollar
or ten million, it is worth everything I’ve been through to have the opportunity
to make what I feel is quality music.
